Art is a mirror of a culture and its world view.Throughout the history
of Islam its art has taken a great variety of forms in the different part of
the Muslim World.
The traditions of fine craftsmanship persist today and Islamic architecture and decorative arts are still very much alive and valued in many parts of the Muslim World.
What do you think of an Islamic Art section?

Salaam Aleikum soleil56,
That is a good suggestion. How about Islamic Art & Music section. Ofcourse, the Music would be pertaining to what is Halal in Islam.
Anyone else agree or diagree?
Let me know before the final decision is made, Inshaallah.

Slam Alayakoum Dear Sisters,
God is beautiful and loves beauty.
Arts of Islam or Islamic Arts?
Such as architecture, mosques, madrasah, calligraphy, miniature painting, textile etc.
of all the visual art, caligrahy has been most highly regarded as a fine art by muslims. The arabic alphabet in various sgripts in combinations with arabic ornaments became the most prized decoration for architecture and other functional works, furniture, textiles and vessels.Indeed, with exceptions of poets and calligraphers, Muslims have never looked to artists for special insights or meaning. They have regarded the arts primaly as the decorative arts, based greatly upon the study of mathematics and involving geometric designs.
Musiqa in arabic refers mainly to popular and instrumental music and exludes genres such as Qur'anic chanting and the Muslim call to prayer.
Musiqa or music??????????????
Music is Halal in Islam.
There is a site concerning music in Islam.
(The link was removed by Administrator. Since we cannot guarantee that what the site promotes is according to Quran and Hadith, then it is best not to make it a authority on Islamic issues.)

Music is haram except for the daff drum.
The prophet Mohammed PBUH said " From among my believers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk ( for men) , the drinking of alcohol, and the use of musical instruments, as lawful. And from them, there will be some who will stay near the side of a mountain , and in the evening their sheppard will come to them with their sheep and ask them for something, but they will say "Return to us tomorrow." Allah will destroy them during the night and let the mountain fall on them, and He will transform the rest of them into monkeys and pigs, and they will remain so till the Day of Resurrection." Sahih Al-Buckari Vol7 #494b
sisters we have to be carefull to who we listen to . Music is Haram. I read the article and it said that nowhere in the quran it talks about music, but allah said we need to believe and follow his book and the way of our beloved Prophet. Learn hadith not just the Quran. The are intertwined. As muslims, sunni salafi etc. we need to study the hadith as much as the QUran. The article i belive is invalid and research who are these people who are saying this. A shiate muslim will say things with conviction that are against our sunni believes. so all I am saying is do not believe all you read. GO back to the Quran and hadith and verify what is being written inchallah. There is no modernity in islam. Innovation is haram. Allah gave us a perfect religion, who are we to try to change or reform it, or comform it to today's time.

There is clear cut daleel that music is haraam (jazakhallah khair sis for posting the hadith!), but I know some sisters will have an issue with that.
I suggest for the sake of keeping things as fitnah-free as possible, to leave music out of it, and keep it to those things that are permitted in Islam (ie, no images).
Just my 2 cents [niqabisis]

Salaam Aleikum Sisters,
Music is a controversial issue and some scholars say all music is haram while others say certain type of music is haram. Allah(swa) knows best!
I personally don't like music. I think it can negatively influence a person. Astaghfirullah. But I do like the Islamic songs such as those that Yusuf Islam sings (no other insturments are in it except I believe some sort of drum...which i think all agree is permissable). Also, nasheeds are good to listen to cause it promotes Islam and again with halal instruments.
So, I think Islamic music such as the above that I mentioned...which is only for the purpose of remembering and praising Allah(swa) is great to have!

Dear Narmi,
Which songs do you mean from Cat Stevens now called Yusuf Islam.
The songs after convertion or before convertion?
He is playing on the guitar and there is piano drum and other instruments as well.

Assalamu Aleikum Wa Rahmetullahi Wa Barakatuh
I think it`s an great idea. On my personal opinion, Pop Music is one thing but Madeeha ( Islamic song for praise ALLAH ) is another. Do you know ,Ummah, from Sammy Yussuf or ,The last breath, from Ahmed Bakthir. This madeeh made me cry and very fearful. Madeeh like that can be a way to reach the youth, especially in the western country, an bring them back to the right path.

As salaamu alaikum,
Islam specifically says the duff drum is permissible which means not just any drum :!: The duff (or sometimes spelled "deff") drum is like that of the tambourine but without the cymbals. These drums are also referred to as spiritual drums here in the west. You can do a Google search to see what the actual drum looks like.
Several nasheed artist use any drum ,which is not permissible in Islaam. It must be specifically the duff drum. The duff drum is shallow so it does not have a deep base sound when it is hit. If you hear a deep base sound while listening to a nasheed you can rest assure that it is not the duff :!:
With that said...I was totally nasheed crazy  some months ago :!: I loved anything and everything by Ahmad Bukhatir(by the way he is completely voice only). But I realized that I was going overboard when I would hear his nasheeds in my head while making salah :o To say the least I stopped cold turkey :!: Now I exclusively only listen to Quranic recitation! For those who do listen to nasheed..I advise you not to let it exceed the time that you give to hearing the words of our creator. Whose words should be more beloved to us than any other words :!:
I love you all for the pleasure of Allah!

Salaam Aleikum Sisters!
Thank you for all your replies! :P For now, anything related to Islamic Arts can be placed in the "Hobbies" category. If we get many topics regarding it, then inshaAllah I will make a new category for it.
Thank you for your suggestions!
