I wear pants and long sleeve shirts and regular hijabs. At home I usually wear jeans and a t shirt, then if I have to go out, I just throw on one of those really light sweaters that are long but open in the font.

As-salaamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,
Al-hamdu lillah
Hmmmmm....the minute I took the Shahada sisters wanted to cover me up with a table cloth...lol...it was all they had! Since then I've moved on to full hijab....long dresses inside, adding a scarf, and abaya outside. I also love to wear those cute boots that have a 2" heel, and cover just above the ankle...so when the wind blows nobody gets to sneak a peek...lol
We all start covering at a very individual rate, as faith increases so too does the amount of clothing! lol
Masha'Allah Oum Anas I so admire your conviction to wear niqaab!!

lol, yes, looking at old school photos I see my hijab starting somewhere at the top of my forehead, and then for each year it gets lower and lower and bigger and bigger... [smilie=243221icon_lol.gif]
Masha'Allah Oum Anas I so admire your conviction to wear niqaab!!
Well, sis, I just feel that when there are sisters who've been tortured, raped and killed for this little piece of cloth.... then it's really not something to play about with...
May Allah make us (and keep us) as steadfast on His Path as them, ameen.
PS I hope I'm not offending anyone or giving anyone guilt or bad feelings, it's not my intention...

Well, sis, I can see where you're coming from...but respectfully, I'll add that I think clothing is not an indicator of someone's faith. [smilie=happy.gif] Faith is a really intricate, deep thing, and so are people's intentions and reasons behind what they do. I think we should be careful about judging according to external measures, IMHO. [smilie=281sis.gif]

Assalamu'alaikum ya Ukht,
I dress in anything I find nice & modest - Abaya, Long Pants/Jeans, Long skirts, Blouses, Salwa Kamees, Malaysia Baju Kurong, Indonesian Kebaya ... all long sleeve, not tight and covering a lil lower than the ankle. Then, I wear a matching hijab... [smilie=281sis6.gif]

Sis Umm Yehiya....my response to your post is by no means a "disrepect" to you....so plzzzzzz Love [smilie=awub.gif] do not take it as such.....okay [smilie=23icon_mrgreen.gif].
Noor: We all start covering at a very individual rate, as faith increases so too does the amount of clothing! lol
I don't know Umm Yehiya...I think I am going to have to agree with Sis Noor on this......I have seen too many Sisters struggling with wether to wear it or not (full hijab....head & body).....but as their Iman increased, so had their "want for full hijab".
Umm Yehiya: but respectfully, I'll add that I think clothing is not an indicator of someone's faith.
And respectfully so....I think clothing IS an indicator of Faith...if not then ALLAH (swt) would not have had us to cover properly in the first place.
Our "want" for covering is due to what ALLAH (swt) has sent down to us...for OUR OWN PROTECTION, and out of respect for HIM we try and do so.....(and of course to distingush us from others).
Umm Yehiya: Faith is a really intricate, deep thing, and so are people's intentions and reasons behind what they do.
This is true....and everyone's is not the same and everyone's Faith fluctuates from time to time.....and ALLAH knows this, HE expects that from us...so that we can turn to HIM in repentance for it.
Umm Yehiya: I think we should be careful about judging according to external measures, IMHO.
This too is true, about the whole "judging"...period!! (only ALLAH can Judge)......But we should also not take too "lightly" what has been obligatory upon us either......Hey, did I word that right, well anyway...you all know what I mean right [smilie=23icon_mrgreen.gif].
We do what we do in Islam out of our Love & Respect for ALLAH.....a way to repay HIM for what HE has Blessed US with already......EVERYDAY of our lives....what better way to repay HIM but by doing as HE asks of Us.
If I have offended anyone by what I have said....I ask that You & ALLAH to forgive me.....that was not my intentions.

Let me say at first, i admire the sisters wearing niqab. Inch ALLAH one day i will too.
Second, i agree with umm Yehiah. Just ALLAH knows what is in our heart. After my humble opinion it isn`t possible to see the taqwa / deen of someone from how she is dressing. I know per example sisters who want to dress more, but their husbands or fathers forbid. And i know that there are bad ,,woman`` wearing niqab and everything, just to cover their very bad behavior. They showed me an area in Alex, Audhubillah it is worse known for that.

"What one does in the dark....ALLAH (swt) will bring to light"....InshaAllah.
Just ALLAH knows what is in our heart. After my humble opinion it isn`t possible to see the taqwa / deen of someone from how she is dressing.
Nadine you are right, HE alone knows what is in your Heart....and there are Sisters out there who only cover just to be covering, like doing it for "show" [smilie=11281astaghfirullah.gif] ....and still do whatever when the sun goes down.....BUT IT IS ALL WRITTEN.
I had mentioned that clothes ARE IN DEED an indicator of Faith....but I forgot to add, that it is for those who are sincere about doing so (and I am not talking about those who are being oppressed to the point that they cannot wear proper Hijab, but want to....for them, ALLAH is Most Merciful).
....I look at my Hijab (body covering) as a "shield", a protection for me.....and if I am not covered properly, I feel naked....before ALLAH, the Angels and Everyone around me [smilie=peek.gif].
May ALLAH continue to Guide Us towards what is right and keep Us away from those things & people that may tarnish our Deen ....ameen [smilie=apray.gif].

Masha'allah, sis Naimah, that was a wonderful disagree! [smilie=23icon_mrgreen.gif] [smilie=rainbow.gif]
I'll agree that clothing is an indicator of faith to the extent that obviously the person covering is doing what is right.
But you never know a person's internal struggles - or not.
Covering & modesty is something a faithful person wears & does, but as for a MEASURE of his/her faith? I don't know.
Sis Naimah, you mentioned sincere intention - but that, we can't know, as we don't know someone's heart. We can FEEL it; get a general impression which insha'allah is correct of someone's heart.
Allah loves us to cover, and the more covering, the better. That is what's RIGHT.
But what I'm getting at is that I don't think it's an indicator of someone's faith - just because someone wears niqab or a man has a long beard (as good examples of more coverage) doesn't necessarily mean they have deeper faith than someone who does not.
Istaghfirallah, I have seen & heard of women & men who do have lots of covering, but behave in less than admirable ways.
Alhamdulieh, clothing is a blessing & a sign from Allah. We should strive to do our best to improve our piety & our covering.
What I'm saying is, I think we should reserve measuring someone's faith by it and leave it to the realms of Allah.
Wallahu Alim.
Anything good I've said is from Allah; anything incorrect is from me. Istagfirallah.

Okay....I am in an "agreeance" with you on that (I know, I know...it's not a word....but doesn't is sound good [smilie=awink2.gif] )....I too have seen individuals who posses those qualities as well....May ALLAH have Mercy on them and May HE keep Us away from falling into that "trap" as well....ameen.

Alhamdulillah over here in Saudi Arabia i wear the whole head abaya with the niqaab ( looks like a slow motion tent...lol!).
But when i visit N.Y, i wear my black abaya( not the one starting fr. the head but the shoulder) and had my mom stitch me a white scarf and white niqaab to go . Alhamdulillah i've used it for the past 3 years alhamdulillah.
I admit i do get weak sometimes and the shaytaan starts whispering ALLLLL kinds of excuses in my heart and then i have to turn to Allah and ask for strength again & again & AGAIN. SubhanAllah Allah is the ONLY source of strength.
Sister JundAllah .......may Allah make me as strong as you are and help me to make the transition into the blcak niqaab and gloves and socks !!! MASHALLAH LA QUWWATA ILLA BILLA !! ANd may Allah elevate your station in both the worlds and be pleased with you.......the same goes for all you lovely sisters out there, AMEEN !!
The most important thing is that we sincerely keep trying !![smilie=ygrouphug.gif] [smilie=ygrouphug.gif]

Masha'Allah I usually wear full black or sometimes dark grey and full hijab. I love overhead abayas, niqab and gloves. Less things to put on with the overheads. Or I'll wear an abaya with the matching hijab that's like an overhead, just ties on your head then tie your niqaab over it. I'm all about simplicity.

Assalamu alaikum,
Outside the house I always wear an abaya and a long headscarf that goes at least to my elbows or longer. I like earthy colours but once in a while I wear a colourful scarf (just when going to a Sisters gathering, which we have every other week).

As Salaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,
I always wear an abaya and niqqab which is either black or dark blue. I don't wear too many colors [smilie=121inshallah.gif] I might try something different like gray or brown, I like to keep it simple and plain. Last night my husband told me he would like for me to wear gloves so I'll be adding that to my attire as well.

Shoulder abayah or overhead jilbaab with huge khimar to shin or just thigh ( great for nursing), niqaab all the way mashaAllah gloves some days but with kids sometimes I just wind up taking them off and putting on and off and on etc. I still like to look decent when going out so I try to get garments with nice material but not too decorative. You can't get too showy with all black anyway ( well except when they have the jilbab with the sparkle designs on them). I also wear navy blue or brown any muted color that won't attract outside attention from non mahram men.

I wear hijab and modest clothes (long skirts and tops) but also wear Turkish style jilbabs. But I wear an caftan and abaya to run around town. At home I wear caftans.
