View Full Version : How Often Do You Make The Bed?

Back in mynewly-wed/"pre-pregnancy" days (it seems so long ago!), I'd make the bed everyday after dh left for work. I had my lazy days, but I never went more than 2 days without making the bed look pretty.
These days the idea of making the bed makes me laugh! Unless company is coming over, it's stays the same as when we left it in the morning. When dh goes out of town I try to make the effort for him to come back to a clean house, so as I was making the bed just now, I was wondering how often do you all do it?

My sons and i have a strict schedule. Get up brush teeth ect eat break fast then clean up rooms making beds vaccum picking up toys then we change our clothe then our day begins . We have done this for a couple of months and this helps my house stay in order being a on the go mom with play groups and arabic class, Quran class . My kids feel that they are helping mom and dad keep with the up keep of the house.
During the pregnancy i would go crazy if a blanket was left on the ground. I have major nesting from 4 month till birth.

I can't stand to see messy bed's! Even when I sleep, the cover's have to be just 'so'!

I make the bed at least 6 times a day. Every time we lie on it, sit on it or stand on it, I make it as soon as we get off. For me not making the bed is not really an option.

He He He. I try to make the bed everyday. Try to arrange the blancket when Maryam catch it from the other side and want to play swinging with. Or i just finnish and she jump on the bed.....
Sharing the sleeping room with my toddler, i`m satisfied with clean sheets.

Salam sister,
I must say I'm another case of OCD as well when it comes to bed. Since I stay home and homeschool my girls, the house is always like a tornado itself. I dont do anything about it until an hour before my hubby comes home. Theeeeen, I run around like a chiken with its tail on fire, cleaning up everything. I try to do the bed first thing in the morning, when I get up, so at least one room is done.
When I do this, I put the kids in front of the computer, or TV otherwise, they'll mess things up again, lol..
I dont give them TV or the comp through out the day so they always looking forward to this routine. One hour program is enough for me to straighten out the house and cook up something simple without too much of distraction from them.
A long time ago, my hubby told me that he felt like a rich man when he comes home to a neat house. I can see also in his behaviour, he is less moody when the house is neat.
Yes, he's a super duper hard core neat freaker....lol it's ok with me, since I rather have that than a nasty slob for a husband, thank you ALLAH!
Regards,

Assalamu'alaikum ya Ukht,
I used to be OCD in making my beds. During my single days, I don't even sleep on my bed !! [smilie=loopy.gif] ... I put a matress in the living room and sleep there... on many nights my mum will join me, LOL !!! So my room is always prim & proper [smilie=1224311icon_wink.gif]
But I do lay down there to read books or take naps ... but I will make it once I get up [smilie=yhaha.gif] .
After I got married, my bed are made everymorning after I get up. And once again before we go to bed. Now with this lil boy around, my bed hv become his trampoline !! [smilie=jumpingonbed.gif].
Even so, my bed are made up every morning and again before I go to bed, also on every occasion when it's messed up - it will be made up ! [smilie=flower4u.gif]
U can sit, lay down, read on my bed.. I can tolerate it (with a frown on my face [smilie=irked.gif] ).... just don't touch my pillows !!!!!! [smilie=duel.gif] [smilie=boxing.gif]

when i was single, i made my bed everyday b/c i never messed it up 2 much at night. and in my newlywed days, i used to make it in the morning and then got fed up b/c dh would go lay on the bed so much b4/after work or on the weekends, and we had so many sheets that it takes a long time to fix, so i was like what's the point! he doesn't care if the bed's not made either for the same reason. so, we just make it when company's coming over. Ummm, no, I don't make the bed unless we are having company, LOL! With all the things I have to rush and do before I leave for work in the morning making the bed is probably at the bottom of my list of priorities. I used to make the bed though everytime I would touch it in my pre-baby days, but not anymore, lol. Although I do make it up before I get in it at night, hmmm maybe I'm backwards lol!

[smilie=111281salams.gif] I must make the bed up soon as I get up in the morning it makes your room look neat and clean . Also when i am tired from working I like to come in a go to sleep in a clean made up bed InshaAllah.

Since our house has been on the market I make it perfect every day. Before, I'd mostly straighten it out before I left in the morning if I got out of there after DH. If he was still there when I left, forget it - it was a mess when I got home and I'd have to make it before we could go to bed. I hate crawling into a messy bed.
I bought a really nice comforter set with the pillow shams for the house showings. I may NEVER put it on again after this is over because is really is a hassle. It's beautiful, but a lot of work.

My reaction was similar to Sis Naimah's when I read this post! I would love to be able to say that I make my bed every day, but I would be a liar! [smilie=1827icon_redface.gif] I really like to have a nice, neat bed but it is sooooo at the bottom of my priorities list. No one ever sees it but me, so it seems pointless compared to the 9 million other things I have to do every day.

Asalaamu alaikum.
I like to let the bed air a little before making it. But it is always made before I go to work or leave the house...unless there is someone still in it! Sometimes my husband makes the bed before I can get to it. His mom taught him to make his bed! We each have our own style of making the bed too.
No matter what else is going on in the room, if the bed is made it just looks that much neater!
Salaams.

[smilie=111281salams.gif] sorry i am a bit tooooo late with this answer.
Anyway i like my bed and the kids made everyday.
[smilie=11281mashallah.gif]
I would leave the bed open for a while with windows open, so they get fresh. I also like to leave the blankets and quilts out the window to get fresh air,not always but I'll try to.
I like my bed to be clean and fresh when i open it in the evening.
No matter what else is going on in the room, if the bed is made it just looks that much neater!
I am agree sis Mura!

Making the bed . Growing up my mom always said you need to keep the house emaculate. She emphasised on the bedroom, bathroom and the kitchen needed special attention because you never know how you coming back to the house. That is the way I am until this day (smile)

[smilie=1827icon_redface.gif] Ok, I feel bad for being one of the few bed-slobs out there, lol.
You know its bad when on the days I do make the bed, dh asks me if someone is coming over! [smilie=243221icon_lol.gif]

[smilie=111281salams.gifI first repeat everything sis.Humayraah said(sorry,I can't"quote",yet)
True confession! When it comes to my(or our,me&my hubby)bed,I am very, very, sensitive.I do not like to sit on people's bed(would rather sit on the floor unless they insist). [smilie=23icon_mrgreen.gif] I generally consider the bedroom'asanctuary'.A Private place& I don't joke with it.But,i would allow my 'very close Muslimah friends&close family members with all pleasure. They're the exceptions, anything else is considered'Intrusion' on my privacy.
(slightly off),I don't like anyone bouncing on the bed while am laying on it,asleep or awake [smilie=23icon_mrgreen.gif] !
Weird,eeh?

my hubby and i sleep on a day-bed so it doesn't really need 'making up', i just put the pillows in a different order when we are up and if we do use the blanket it gets folded and put behind the pillows so i suppose i kind of do the bed everyday but its so quick and easy it doesn't seem like i have done it

`Assalamu `Alaykum Ukhti,
Lol I was laughing at some of posts.
But I make the bed everyday actually though masha'Allah now that I have Haleemah zawj helps to do this on somedays.
Sometimes he will get out of bed and think I`m w. Haleemah when I`m really sleeping, then he try to make bed with me in it!
And I`m stuck in there like a halal hot dog [smilie=16icon_eek.gif]

I worked as a hotel housekeeper for two years - I aboslutely refuse to make the bed now unless I have to. I haven't even taught my boys how to do it, horror of horrors. ;)
