I would love to buy everything organic & not only look after what's hopefully a healthier option but support the cause as well....HOWEVER, it's just too expensive, so - I don't. [smilie=15icon_cry.gif]

Almost everything here is organic. GMO foods are basically banned in France, Alhamdulillaah.

I was talking to some guy and he was saying that onee reason the food isso expensive is that the people often wont buy "imperfect" looking fruit.. so if a banana doesn't have that "shape" they dump it. And if you look in those supermarkets like Whole Foods.. look how "perfect" they look. My cucumbers in my garden never looked that uniform.. So it drive up the cost.. sad to say.

I said no, it is really hard to believe people when it comes to labeling who really knows if it is really organic.

We stick to organic in the products where hormones, etc. make a huge difference. So our milk, flour, eggs are always organic. For everything else, if it's on sale we get that.

I would love to only buy organic but the reality has been that its too expensive. So Im half and half. When I get it at a good price I buy it.

I agree with Sis Jund ALlah about focusing on buying organic dairy, meat, and eggs.
DISCLAIMER: I'm really into this topic and practically a vegetarian....at my office they call me the food hippie.... You might also when you finish reading my post [smilie=12biggrin.gif]
Why am I so passionate about this?
Have you ever seen videos about how mass livestock animals are treated? It's completely horrible. The cows are milked so much they are emaciated and when they are taken to slaughter their bodies are so worn out, they cannot even walk off the truck sometimes. They live in cement stalls, never see the babies they are supposed to be feeding with their milk, and never see the light of day. The chickens' breasts are so huge from being fed hormones so so we can have bigger portions of juicy white meat, that their legs often break from supporting so much weight....can you imagine how much weight that is to actually break their legs?! The chix are literally thrown onto trucks where they're crammed sometimes more than 10 chix per square foot box....and that's not just on the truck....the chix that make our eggs? They live crammed into boxes with multiple chix as well. Their beaks are cut almost entirely off when they are babies so that they don't wind up killing each other living in the crammed conditions.
If you're really interested in learning more, check out this link (it's really sad, so don't watch in front of kids or if you're not mentally prepared)

Think this doesn't affect our food? Here's a simple and cheap experiment to do.
Go to your super mega grocery and buy the store brand of egg. Then go to an organic store and buy eggs. Take them home and crack one egg from each carton. See what the texture of the mega super brand is and how thick the shell is and compare to the organic brand. Trust me, you will see the difference.
I know most of us probably buy halal meat, but don't think these animals were raised on a sunny pasture...they were raised in the same conditions, just killed in a more humane way.
I know Allah created animals for us to eat, but the way meat is mass-produced is totally appauling. (It's like they're fabricating plastic not raising animals.) We are supposed to care for animals as well...not make them suffer and distort Allah's creation with hormones so we can have more meat. Did you know that on average, each american eats 24 animals in 1 year? Ya haram....what about the poor people in Africa who maybe eat meat once a year if they're lucky. To me, the way animals are treated is just more proof of how greedy humans are.
Did you know that there are 8 billion livestock animals in the world (that's 2 billion more than there are humans). Think they're all running around free ? Guess not...otherwise we'd see cows at everycorner. Where are these billions of animals? We don't see them, right.....why? they are locked up in meat factories!
