as Salaamu 'alaykunna wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuhu ya akhawaat,

So tell us about the way your run your kitchen inshaaAllaah. Do you have one cutting board for meat and another for veggies, or do you use the same for both? Also, if you have separate boards at home, would it bother you if you were invited to eat from someone who used one board for the 2?

I have a bamboo one for everything except meat, and a plastic one for meat.

The bamboo can't be put in a dishwasher, but cleans real well with lemon juice and salt (or good ol' soap if you want), but for the plastic one I can put it in the dishwasher and it'll get nice and clean.

I've found in my experience that herbs (cilantro, parsley, etc) cut up real well and easily on wooden cutting boards.

I have few chopping boards here. My dh loves all the kitchen equipment and comes up with diffewrent gadgets everytime. He is a chef by profession. I don't really use different chopping boards for meat and veggies but i make sure that when I chop meat/fish I then disinfect it.
I use a disinfectant for chopping boards but normal disinfectant or a good scrub with soap I guess is as good as.

Assalamu'alaikum ya Ukht,

I hv 2 boards. Supposedly, One is for Vege and the other for meat. But I hv a maid that does all the chopping & cutting... I told her abt the 2 boards but Wallahu-alam, I don't think she really follows... but whateva, I don't really mind as long as she kept them clean before & after using them.

I myself, will grab any of the two if I hv to do the cutting... LOL !!

JazakAllah khair..

I use those flexible cutting mats that go into the dishwasher - and I have a couple of them. So, I don't worry about using the same one for meat and/or veggies. If I'm cooking both in the same meal I use a separate mat for each.

It wouldn't bother me to eat somewhere that someone only had one cutting board as long as I knew they cleaned it properly between uses.

If I had my way I'd have 2 separate boards, but I don't have my way, lol. Dh didn't see the need to even buy a cutting board, so I have to be grateful that after much time and effort I even have 1. I do use the 1 board for the 2 things, and like the rest of you do, I wash it thoroughly. I was however a complete vegan (didn't eat anything which came from an animal) for over 10 years of my life and back then I'd not eat vege food which was cooked in a pot which had been used to cook a meat dish, even though it was thoroughly washed. I was very particular back then but now I'm more relaxed because I do eat dead animals again. I'd not be bothered to eat from someone who also used 1 board for both but if I knew that the person did not clean the board well after using it for meat, then I won't eat there. Btw, I've been to homes where I've seen veges being cut on the same board with the same knife that meat had just been cut, and no washing took place inbetween.

No, I definately do wash the board. In fact, I always make sure to chop the veg first and then the meat.

I do own more than one chopping board but will only use the others if a) I have a a large quantity of meat to prepare. b) I have a large quantity of veg to prepare. (I actually have about 3/4 chopping boards - but only use the smallest one regularly.)

I have a bamboo one for everything except meat, and a plastic one for meat.

me, too. I also have a blue plastic one for veggies.

I keep my cutting boards separate, but use the same knife b/c I love that knife.

Unfortunately, hubby sometimes uses the bamboo board to cut fish (yuck!) and I was going to buy a replacement for my veggie board but then so much time passed by that I didn't care anymore. so, the bamboo is for veggies and occassionally fish.

I don't mind if someone else used the same board for both if the veggies are being cooked. If they're cutting salad on the same board they cut their meat on and I knew about it, I'd be hesitant to have the salad.

Assalamu alaikum,

I have several cutting boards of various sizes but I only use one of them for meat. I wrote MEAT on it on both sides with permanent marker so I never get mixed up!

A good kitchen disinfectant, by the way, is 2 drops of chlorine bleach in 1 cup of water. Put this in a spray bottle and use it to disinfect all kitchen surfaces - after a thorough washing, of course!

Peace

I had to be honest and say same board. I always separated but my husband says it is stupid and he cuts meat wherever so there is no point to do it. So far we are all still alive alhamdollah.

I use the same wooden board for veggies and meat but different for pastries so not to pick up onion taste for baking sweets. throw away cutting board paper for fish. I can cut up in the hand as well and let it dropped wherever it may in pot. nobody can in my family as they cut up hands with my powerfully sharp knives.my g f nearly chopped her thumb off once.

Yes, I use one each separately... one for meats and one for veggies. It only makes sense to me.

I keep my cutting boards separate, because when you cut meat, bacteria gets in the groves you leave behind withthe knives, n matter how nicely you scrub. I have one bamboo for fruits and veggies and one bamboo for meats.

AssalamAlaykum,

I do have seperate ones just because of bacteria's. I'm so careful about that stuff, its so scary.
