I picked "retirement".....but Health Care is right up there along with it also.

Since hubby and I are reaching our "golden years".. [smilie=243221icon_lol.gif], it is always a concern of Ours.

You are right sis, I don't pay my bills anymore, Alhamdulillaah! Dh handles the bills and trust me, he ensures that we use everything as minimally as possible.

If, and only with Allaah's permission, I don't see us living on the street, inshaaAllaah. We live in a country which does everything possible to prevent things like that from happening, Alhamdulillaah. If we ever had to leave this country, then housing is already taken care of elsewhere, Alhamdulillaah.

We don't know the future, but it is only by the grace, mercy and will of Allaah that things have been put in place to ensure that there will always be an income, no matter how small, Alhamdulillaah. In Allaah we place our trust and He is the best of providers. Our rizq has already been decreed and there is nothing which we can do to decrease what Allaah has predestined to be ours!

We live a debt free life, and make do without whatever we cannot afford to buy with cash. We have never and will never take out a mortgage, a brand new car on which payments have to be made, or anything of the sort, Alhamdulillaah.

Dh and I both come from (different) countries where public health care is free for everyone. We also live in a place where all healthcare (public or private) is taken care of (not by us or insurance), Alhamdulillaah.

The only financial concern we have is that we continue to fear Allaah enough to stay away from riba (interest) and that we use whatever little Allaah allows us wisely and can buy our jannah with the way we use it here in the dunya, inshaaAllaah.

I just looked at the poll again.

Education in this country (as well as the countries where dh and I come from) is free all the way through University if you go to a state owned institution.

Again, where both dh and I come from, as well as here, taxes are removed from your salary monthly and you get paid the remainder. Once a year when income tax returns are filed, the state usually re-imburses what was overpaid.

Where I come from the mandatory age of retirement is 60. I had a government job there, so had I not resigned and migrated then I would have automatically received a pension had I worked for 33 years, waAllaahu 'alam. I'm not sure what the mandatory age of retirement is where dh is from, but here it is quite old (I think around 70 or 75, can't remember...I'll have to ask dh). Allaah alone knows if we'll live that long, but we are doing what we can to ensure that we are able to sustain ourselves in our old age if Allaah allows us to live to be that old, independent of whatever retirement may be paid.

Healthcare ceoncerns me most.

That's why [smilie=121inshallah.gif] I try my best to take care of myself now by watching out for my cholesterol, weight, excercise, and not waiting until it's too late.

Many people here in the UK are very resentful of the 'free' health care. They claim that they are paying taxes through the nose, to give 'lazy people' free medical care! [smilie=13confused.gif] (This is aimed mostly at the immigrant communities...)

I mentioned a while back, in my journal that maybe our financial situation would change. The reason we are so desperate is because even though of course, we care about education and health care, our biggest concern is our mortgage, astagfirullah. [smilie=122529icon_sad.gif]

We are desperate to pay it off and even though I let my dh's family railroad me into agreeing to get it, I have suggested on numerous occasions that we should 'downsize' and get rid of the mortgage as soon as possible. Of course, this is where the 'man is in charge' (heavily influenced by his family) decree comes into play.... [smilie=13confused.gif]

A friend of mine (from another forum), and my dh's friend from back in Egypt was saying that they didn't have to pay for healthcare because of the taxes they pay in London. I live in the US, so I really don't what that's like, we just need to take care of oursleves. And I know that sounds corny, but fives years ago, I use to get sick EVERY month. He had to get health ensurance because of that.
