Asalaam alaikum. I was just curious how sisters here celebrate Eid Al-Adha. Especially sisters in non-Muslim countries. Do you celebrate it similar to Eid Al-Fitr, with gifts, special meals or treats, etc.?
Eid Al-Fitr seems a bit more "celebratory" because you're ending a month of fasting, and have spent a month doing special things. This Eid- unless you're sacrificing an animal (which I'm not), or completing Hajj, it's sort of like - what do I do? Especially living in America where MAYBE they might mention it on the news for 10 seconds. You know, in-between all the xmas commercial ads and TV specials.
For me, I'm going to get Hannah some gifts, and take the day off of school, probably make a nice meal, maybe make some ma'moul cookies. I'm just looking for any other interesting ideas.
PS - We're not involved with the local mosque, and my husband is out of town so I wouldn't go to the mosque.
Thanks in advance for your sharings of how you celebrate Eid!
